Level test

Firstly, in order to determine the group in which the student would improve the fastest, we do a free, no-commitment level test. This consists of a personal interview, a grammar and vocabulary test, and a writing. Then, according to the results and the student’s objectives and availability, we recommend the most appropriate groups.

Our usual courses include two hours of class a week but, if the teacher deems it necessary for the student’s objectives, more hours could be recommended either in a group or 1to1 in order to meet the initial objectives. Groups have a maximum of 5 people. This is the only way for all students to take part and interact, therefore making the most of the lessons.

All required materials are handed to the students either by e-mail before the class or at the beginning of each lesson. The student is at the centre of the learning process and immersed in real-life situations so that they can apply what they have learned in class. This teaching method prepares the student for real communication —both oral and written— with other speakers of the language. For this purpose, texts, listenings, and authentic materials are used, as well as activities that imitate reality.

We know that exams are important, but we do not want classes to exclusively focus on their preparation. We believe that actually learning the language is far more important in order to eventually succeed at exams. For this reason, and in order to complete the course, we offer two weekly hours for exam preparation, when prior notice is given to the teacher. These additional hours are completely free.

Exams that we prepare you for

Escuela Oficial de Idiomas (EOI)

The exams of the EOI are demanding and require thorough preparation. They consist of three or four parts: reading, listening, writing, and (depending on the level) speaking. Levels from A1 to B1 are tested. You can register either as an independent candidate (in June only) or as a student of the EOI (in June and, if necessary, September).

These are the only exams that provide points for primary and high school teachers looking to work in the public system.

We prepare both independent candidates and EOI students.

HSK (an abbreviation of Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi), translated as the Chinese Proficiency Test, is the standardized test of Standard Mandarin Chinese for non-native speakers.

The HSK consists of three different levels: Basic (sublevels 1-2), Intermediate (sublevels 3-4), Advanced (sublevels 5-6) and consists of three exercises (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression), although the first two levels (HSK 1 and HSK 2) do not include written expression.

For levels 1-2, the maximum grade is 200 and the minimum passing grade is 120.

For levels 3-6, the maximum grade is  300 and the minimum passing grade is 180.

YCT (an abbreviation of Youth Chinese Test) is an international standardized Chinese language proficiency exam for children and young people from 6 to 16 years of age.

The YCT consists of 4 different levels from YCT1 to YCT4, and consists of a written and an oral exam, which are independent of each other.

For levels 1-3, the maximum grade is 200 and the minimum passing grade is 120.

For level 4, the maximum grade is 300 and the minimum passing grade is 180.

The HSKK exam is the oral version of the HSK exam. It is a proficiency exam of spoken Mandarin Chinese which measures the oral communicative ability of non-native speakers of Chinese. It has three levels: basic, intermediate, and advanced.

The maximum grade is 100 and the minimum passing grade is 60.

BCT (an abbreviation of Business Chinese Test) is a proficiency exam of Mandarin Chinese which measures the communicative ability of non-native speakers of Chinese in business situations. It has a written version which includes two levels (A and B) and an oral version. The exam is primarily practical and communicative in nature.

The maximum grade is 300, the corresponding level is evaluated according to the grade achieved.
